It occurred to me last night while listening to a talk on social marketing that my beautiful bargain basement flats were shamefully tacky. The flats – lime green patent leather with a faux animal print tip – were a gift from a good friend who pointed them out to me at the local thrift store. I hesitated so she went ahead and bought the $5 flats, above, for me.
I adore them. If you can’t get away with green patent leather in gaudy LA, where can you? But…I’d like a second opinion. I wear them with dark skinny jeans, a black top, and a fitted black and white jacket.

Obviously you are not the first one to like them. Someone else liked them enough to buy them in the first place before donating them to the thrift shop
The rest of your outfit is pretty monochromatic, so it’s totally fine to have one eye-popping item as the highlight 🙂
i love them and i have some kinda like that in hot pink so flaunt it
Tracy, I would loooove a pair of these patent leather flats in pink! I’m envious. ~Julia
I AM A PERSONAL SHOPPER AND I THINK THEY ARE AWESOME! IT’S ALL IN THE ACCESSORIES AND YOU CAN GO WILD WITH YOUR SHOES WHEN WEARING ALL BLACK. I BET THAT IF YOU HAD PURCHASED THEM FROM NEIMAN’S OR BARNEY’S PEOPLE WOULD LOOK AT THEM AND THINK THEY ARE VERY HIP AND HOT!
I WOULD LOVE A PAIR MYSELF!
Lisa, Thanks for your vote of confidence!
I really like them actually!
I love ’em! I have a pair of black plastic croc high heels s I wear all the time. I would love to upgrade to green patent!
I said Other. They’re cute, but they don’t fit your feet. They’re made for someone with long, narrow feet. Judging from the photo, you won’t be able to wear socks in them and the way your toes stick out isn’t appealing.
This is the thing I both love and hate about Thrift store shopping, especially shoes. I never see strange/cute shoes that fit me, but I never see such neat shoes in regular stores like Payless.
As long as they don’t hurt, enjoy them!
SolCat, funny you should think my feet are short. I’m a size 10! As for my toes sticking out, I thought that was called toe cleavage!
I would so wear those!
I like them a lot, actually!
I think they look cute!
I love them. They are adorable. The green patent leather is a . 🙂
Love the shoes!!! Definitely not tacky!
Ha!
Everyone needs something comfortable to wear in their own comfort zone….no matter where you are…I prefer red myself, but hey if that’s your color….wear em’ proudly!!!
I absolutely love these shoes!
Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this also – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and never seem to get anything done… Regards
Re Linda’s comment: If they were in decent enough condition to be donated to a thrift shop, maybe the original buyer decided they were too tacky. 🙂
they are so cute…you lucked out…with a totally black outfit they would really give you the extra color Enjoy them!
Ok, can I first off admit that I am a guy and that I still want to comment on these shoes? – I like them. I think they are different and have a certain style to them that appeals to me, too. If I met a women who wore these shoes, they may actually be the thing that makes me talk to her.
I know you’ve heard the saying,” One mans trash is another mans treasure”… Well, One womans stlye may be the next trend. Wear your bargain basement shoes with pride!
