I wish I had 10 copies of to give out! Reading your comments, I’m reminded just how hard it is to talk about money and find a system that works for both people in a relationship. I’m also grateful that my husband is open and willing to talk about money. We don’t agree on everything, but being able to talk about money without anyone taking it personally is a gift.
And the winner and runners up are…
First runner up is Dale, who wants to change more than a decade of non-communication:
I am approaching my 58th birthday and hope not to have to work forever. My husband is 6 years younger and self-employed. Through my employer, I am the sole provider of retirement savings. For the 15 years that we have been married, we have never discussed money. He has his and I have mine and somehow the bills all get paid. As I get closer to retirement age, I want to do things differently. But I don’t even know how to make financial plans alone, let alone discuss it with my husband. I need help!
Second runner up is Michelle Ventresca, who is bothered by how her husband spends:
My husband and I have been married for 13 years, it’s my second marriage. We are both frugal, but I believe he is not when it comes to other people! I’m trying to find a balance between our 2 views of money and it doesn’t seem to be working out very well! I’ll think I’m doing great at food shopping, and he compliments me for couponing and etc., but then he’ll go and be frivolous, and loan somebody money, or buy more silver as a hedge, when I don’t think it’s the right thing to do when we are so cash poor! He also donates 10% of his salary weekly to the church, which bothers me, while I’m trying to pinch pennies!
First runner up is Thom, who has somehow gotten through 16- years of marriage without talking about money:
My wife and I have been married for 16yrs 8months 24days. We have no monetary communication at all. We make it, it gets spent. This book is correct in stating that without knowing how to communicate about money, budgets, plans never get to fruition. Please send me the book!
And the winner is Kat, who can’t talk about money without fighting:
I need this book because everytime my fiance and I talk about anything related to money it starts an argument. I’m a saver; he’s a spender, and it is not working at all. I just want us to be on the same page before we take that final step, and this book seems like the perfect answer!
